Travel to Hue

Da Nang and Hue are locations of three of the most important historical sites in Vietnam. The major historical site inear Da Nang is the ancient city of Hoi An, which is 35 km from the Da Nang Railway Station. The two important historical sites in Hue are the The Imperial Citadel, which is on the other side of the Perfume River from Hue Railway Station, and the The Tomb of the Emperors, which is a number of different tombs about 5 km to the South of Hue Railway Station.

If you plan to visit all three historical sites, travelling by train, a good plan would be to arrive in Da Nang the day before you intend to go to Hoi An, and stay one night in a hotel near Da Nang Railway Station. The following morning get up early in the morning and leave your bags in Da Nang Railway Station before travelling to Hoi An. If you book Train #SE20 departing at 18:55, which is one of the fast train services to Hue, you should have sufficient time to explore the Ancient city of Hoi An and still get to the train station in time for your departure. The 18:55 train arrives at Hue at 21:30, which is a decent hour to check into a hotel and grab a bite to eat and a beer before going to sleep. By road the journey from Hoi An to Da Nang city centre should take 46 minutes. To maximise your time in Hoi An you might consider taking a taxi from there back to the railway station in Da Nang. The taxi journey should cost you around 400,000 VND. If you are looking to save money there are public bus services from Hoi An to Da Nang city centre for 20,000 VND per person. You need to catch public bus #1 from the public bus station about 2 km to the North of Hoi An old town. They depart every 20 to 30 minutes during the day and the route passes by near to Da Nang Railway Station. Allow 2 hours for the journey by bus from Hoi An old town to Da Nang Railway Station.
