About Travel to Nha Trang
Nha Trang is Vietnam’s 7th largest city, and also its most popular beach resort town attracting large numbers of Vietnamese holiday makers as well as Russian tourists on package holidays. Mass tourism in Nha Trang is focused around the city centre beach, which is 6 km long, and tourist attractions such as Vinpearl Land (a theme park on an island) and Monkey Island, which is a nearby islet with lots monkeys. There is, however, a lot more to Nha Trang than these popular tourist traps, and plenty of things to do and see there which will appeal more to the independent traveller on a longer journey around South East Asia.
If you are prepared to travel a short distance out of Nha Trang by road, perhaps on a motorbike rented for a few days, you can easily reach some less busy beaches where you can find some less expensive accommodation and a more relaxed atmosphere. The two most popular beaches for independent travellers in the area are Doc Let beach (49 km from Nha Trang Railway Station) and Jungle Beach, which is 18.5 km further south from there. Nearer to the centre of town, we recommend that you visit the Cham Towers of Po Nagar temple. Constructed bit by bit over the course of 9 centuries from the 8th century to the 17th Century Po Nagar temple is the best preserved example of of architecture of the Champa Empire which dominated much of South East Asia during the middle ages. Another attraction in the Nha Trang area is hiking. For a short hike try walking to the Ba Ho Waterfalls, which are located 24.7 km up the coast. You can park at the start of the path to the falls and trek from there. More adventurous hikers have plenty of trekking opportunities in the mountain ranges on all three sides of the city. The highest peak in the area is the 1,578 metre tall Hon Ba Mountain 52 km to the east of Nha Trang.
