About Travel to Hue

Its a manageable walk of just over 2 km from Hue Railway to the top end of the Hung Vuong Road where popular inexpensive hotels, such as the Jade Hotel, are located along with busy restaurants like the well known Quan Hanh Restaurant. You could take a taxi if you have difficulties walking that distance or if you have lots of luggage or small children but if you can manage it then we recommend doing the walk as it mostly follows a pleasant riverside path which is easy to navigate. Basically all you need to do is to turn right down the main road once you get to the magnificent Troung Tien Bridge.

If, like most tourists to Hue, you do choose to stay in the area around the northern end of the Hung Vuong Road then you can also walk easy to the Imperial Citadel, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the most popular attraction in Hue. From the Jade Hotel it’s easy 2.1 km walk across the Troung Tien Bridge to the main entrance to the Imperial Citadel. Two places of interest you can’t easily walk to from the top end of the Hung Vuong Road are the Pagoda of the Celestial Lady (6.3 km) and the Tomb of Emperor Khai Dinh (8.4 km). If you are travelling on your own then we suggest hiring a motorbike taxis, which charge very reasonable fares in Hue, to visit these two top attractions.
