About Phan Thiet in Binh Thuan Province
By road it is a 12 km journey from Binh Thuan Railway Station to to the Provincial capital Phan Thiet. Phan Thiet is a small city by Vietnamese standards with an urban population of around 300,000 permanent residents. The city centre has lots of shops and places to eat, some of which cater well for foreign visitors. There are some quiet beaches to the south of city centre with a low density of resorts fronting onto the beaches themselves. The other major tourist attraction in Phan Thiet city is the Thap Poshanu Cham Tower, which is a 9th Century Hindu temple built by the people of the Cham civilisation. The Thap Poshanu Cham Tower is located 7 km by road to the east of Phan Thiet city centre.
The majority of visitors choose not to stay in Phan Thiet in favour of a more touristy area called Mui Ne, which is 27 km by road to the east of Phan Thiet city centre. What is described as ‘Mui Ne’ in fact incorporates several smaller villages, each with their own character and points of interest to visitors. The busiest part of Mui Ne is Ham Tien, which includes the 10 km long Rang Beach. Ham Tien has a lot of hotels, bars and restaurants, all catering to tourists and the best nightlife in Binh Thuan Province. Rang Beach is considered one of the best places in South East Asia for kite surfing and wind surfing and a lot of foreign travellers come to Ham Tien to do one or more of these activities.
