About Travel to Ninh Binh
The major attraction in Ninh Binh Province is the Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex
The 62 square kilometre Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex is located 9 km by road to the west of Ninh Binh Railway Station. Rather than stay in Ninh Binh city many visitors choose closer to the Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex. The Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex has three principal attractions:
- Tam Cốc Bích Động valley: This is where the Ngo Dong River meanders through rice fields between steeply sided limestone hills, often described as being like a land based version of Ha Long Bay. A popular activity is to take a trip in a wooden boat along the Ngo Dong River into partly submerged caves.
- Trang An Grottoes: Another area with a river and boat trips available which visitors through partly submerged caves. The Trang An Grottoes tend to be less busy than the Tam Cốc Bích Động valley.
- Bich Dong Pagoda: 15th Century Buddhist temple located on a hillside that you need to walk up lots of steps to visit.

Bai Dinh Pagoda
Ninh Binh Province also has some popular tourist attractions outside of the Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex. The most popular of these is Bai Dinh Pagoda. Bai Dinh Pagoda has an old part, located at the top of more stairs, and a newer section featuring a massive pagoda and shrine hall reminiscent of some of the more sizeable Buddhist temple complexes in China.
Phat Diem Cathedral
Also worth seeing is Phat Diem Cathedral which is a 19th Century Catholic cathedral featuring both European and Vietnamese architectural styles.
