About Travel to Binh Thuan

Binh Thuan is a large coastal province located close enough to Ho Chi Minh City to attract large numbers of Vietnamese tourists taking short seaside holidays. Binh Thuan also attracts plenty of package tourists from Russia and other countries in Eastern Europe, as well as a significant number of water sports enthusiasts.

Phan Thiet

Phan Thiet is the provincial capital of Binh Thuan. It’s a fairly large city with over 300,000 permanent residents and numerous hotels and restaurants catering to holidaymakers located close to Phan Thiet’s city centre beach.

Binh Thuan Railway Station is not in Phan Thiet. It’s located 12 km to the north, and in order to take a bus to the more popular parts of the province visitors arriving by train need to first take a bus or a taxi from the train station to the city centre bus station.

Many foreign visitors to Binh Thuan choose not to stay in Phan Thiet as the beaches are better to the east of the city. However, Phan Thiet does have one major historical attraction, the Po Shanu Towers, located on the edge of the city. The Po Shanu Towers temple was built by the Cham civilisation in the 9th Century. Whilst not as impressive as Po Nagar in Nha Trang, the Po Shanu Towers temple is worth visiting.

Windsurfing and Kite boarding

At certain times of the year the coastline of Binh Thuan Province becomes very windy, so windy in fact that it’s generally considered to be the second best place in Asia, after Boracay, for windsurfing and kite boarding.

The centre of the local water sports scene is Ham Tien, located 16 km to the east of Phan Thiet on the 10 km long Rang Beach. Ham Tien is a long thin town spread out along several kilometres of beach. It has a really wide range of accommodation from luxury beachfront hotels to small rooms above commercial premises, with room prices varying accordingly. Ham Tien also has lots of restaurants serving International food and bars. It’s very much a holiday resort town that will appeal to many younger travellers and families.
