About Travel to Thap Cham

Thap Cham Railway Station is located in the Eastern half of the town Phan Rang Thap Cham. The railway station is close to the majort historical attraction of this town, Po Klong Garai Temple. Po Klong Garai Temple is a small 13th Century temple complex created by the Cham civilisation which once ruled over Southern Vietnam as well as parts of Cambodia. Po Klong Garai Temple is similar, although much smaller, than Po Nagar Temple in Nha Trang. For visitors interested in Cham architecture, and with their own transport, there is also another smaller Cham temple called Po Ro Me Cham Tower located 16 km to the South West of Thap Cham Railway Station.

Other than the temple, there is very little else in terms of amenities for visitors in the Western half of Phan Rang Thap Cham. The Eastern half of the town, however, has plenty of hotels and restaurants, and a magnificent 6 km long bay with two beaches: Binh Son beach in the south of the bay, and Ninh Chu beach in the north. It’s an 8 km journey from Thap Cham Railway Station to reach the beach so we recommend taking a taxi. Phan Rang Thap Cham is a pleasant place to stay with far fewer tourists than Nha Trang or Mui Ne to the south. The beach though does become busier with Vietnamese visitors at the weekends. Phan Rang Thap Cham is also an excellent starting point for exploration of the coastal roads to the North and the South of the town centre. The route south covers around 38 kilometres of dramatic coastline before you reach the town of Ca Na. The route north is slightly longer, around 61.5 km to the town of Cam Thonh Dong. and passes by more scenic coastline, including the island of Hon Chut which can be reached by local boat services from the pier on Kinh Beach.
