About Travel to Binh Thuan

Binh Thuan Province is best known among international visitors for the 27 km long stretch of coastline running east from the provincial capital, Phan Thiet, to Mui Ne Village. There are also some inland attractions not so far from this part of the coast that attract significant numbers of visitors.

Arrival in Binh Thuan

Binh Thuan Railway Station is located in a slightly inconvenient location 12 km by road to the north of Phan Thiet City. The reason that it’s slightly inconvenient is because it’s quite a distance from a city, a bus station or any of the places holiday makers might be interested in visiting. If you plan to travel to your final destination by public transport, rather than a taxi, we recommend taking a local bus to main local bus station in Phan Thiet to board a connecting bus service to your accommodation.

Wind Surfing and Kite Surfing

The coastline in Binh Thuan is very windy, and often perfect for kite surfing and wind surfing. Some enthusiasts rate the area as the second best place in Asia, after Boracay, for both activities.

At the centre of the local kite surfing and wind surfing scene is the village of Ham Tien, which is located 16 km by road to the east of Phan Thiet City in the centre of the beautiful 10 km long Rang Beach. Ham Tien has lots of hotels and restaurants catering to foreign visitors and some bars which often become lively as the sun is setting. There are also kite surfing and wind surfing schools located in and around Ham Tien which both teach these sports as well as rent out equipment.

Phan Thiet City

Phan Thiet is a fairly large city with over 300,000 permanent residents. The city has a long beach with plenty of tourist hotels and restaurants nearby. As a holiday destination, Phan Thiet City is not so popular with foreign visitors and the city’s tourist industry is largely focused on domestic tourism.

The one major point of interest in Phan Thiet City is an ancient temple located 7 km by road to the east of the city centre called the Po Shanu Towers. This small temple complex was built in the 9th Century by the Cham civilisation which also built a number of other better known temples, such as Po Nagar in Nha Trang, across Southern Vietnam.

Mui Ne Village

Located 27 km by road to the east of Phan Thiet City, Mui Ne is predominantly a fishing village. It has a small harbour, lots of seafood restaurants and stalls, a beach and a small number of hotels. It’s worth visiting Mui Ne to see the boats and eat the local catch harbour side.

Sand Dunes

There are two large areas of inland sand dunes in Binh Thuan. One area, called the Red Dunes, is located just to the north of Mui Ne Village. The other area, the White Dunes, is located 27 km by road to the north east of Mui Ne Village. These sand dunes attract plants and wildlife suited to desert conditions and there are some interesting things to see. There are also local people renting out plastic trays for sledging down the dunes, which is a popular activity for younger travellers.
