About Travel to Nha Trang

Nha Trang is a medium sized coastal city with around 500,000 permanent residents located in the far south of Central Vietnam. Nha Trang has lots of points of interest for visitors, as well as lots of hotels, restaurants, and bars, and attracted more than 10 million visitors in 2024 making it Vietnam’s most popular coastal resort destination.

Nha Trang Beach

Nha Trang Beach, or Tran Phu Beach as it is also known, is the city’s defining characteristic and the main reason for the large number of visitors to the city. The beach is 6 km long with white sand and the sea is safe for swimming during calm weather. Much of the 6 km length of the beach is backed by a pedestrian promenade, and in some parts of the beach, particularly in the city centre, there are bars and restaurants facing directly onto the beach.

Vinpearl Land

There are 9 islands in Nha Trang Bay, most of which are visible from Nha Trang Beach. An entertainment complex called Vinpearl Land has been constructed on the largest of those 9 islands, Hon Tre Island. Vinpearl Land is easily accessible from Nha Trang via a cable car service to Hon Tre Island. The cable car station is near the southern end of Nha Trang Beach.

Vinpearl Land is a 200,000 sqm complex featuring indoor and outdoor amusement parks, hotels, a golf course, and lots of different food and beverages outlets. It’s most popular with families.

Po Nagar Temple

As well as being a beach holiday destination that attracts large numbers of package tourists, particularly from Russia, Nha Trang has several important cultural attractions, the most famous of which is Po Nagar Temple.

Po Nagar Temple is one of the few surviving reminders of the Cham civilisation which ruled over Southern Vietnam, and other parts of South East Asia, for about 1,000 years before finally dissolving in the 15th Century. The Cham people still exist but no longer have a homeland and now live in smaller groups scattered across Asia.

The temple was built in the heyday of the Cham Empire over several hundred years from 7th to 10th Centuries. Partly because of the breadth of Cham religious beliefs, and partly because successive generations added to and amended the temple, it features religious imagery from several different traditions, including Hinduism and Buddhism, as well as deities unique to Cham culture.

Long Son Pagoda

Long Son Pagoda is Nha Trang’s second most interesting temple, and it’s conveniently located for train travellers only 500 metres walk from Nha Trang Railway Station.

Long Son Pagoda is a temple in the Chinese tradition of Buddhism, established in its current location in 1900 making it the oldest functioning Buddhist temple in the city. The most prominent feature of Long Son Pagoda is a 24 metre tall statue of the Lord Buddha situated at the top of Trai Thuy Hill. The views across the city from the hilltop are spectacular also.

Other points of interest include a series of ornate temple buildings at the base of the hill, and a collection of thought provoking statues and reliefs lining the hillside leading up to the main statue. There is also a very good vegetarian restaurant run by the monks located near the main entrance to the temple. It’s one of the better restaurants located close to the train station.
