About Travel to Da Nang
Da Nang is a major coastal city in Central Vietnam.
Tourism in Da Nang City
The city has over 1 million permanent residents and a diverse local economy with local workers engaged in agriculture, textiles, ship building, bricks, medicines and a wide range of other activities. Da Nang is not dependent on tourism to the same extent Nha Trang although this has been changing as the city is increasingly discovered as a holiday destination.
As more tourists come more places catering to tourists, such as hotel, bars, and restaurants, also open up and Da Nang is part way to becoming a place which attracts international tourists in significant numbers.
Within Da Nang City itself the main attraction is the beaches. There are lots of them and the popular, My Khe Beach, is 30 km long with lots of resorts, restaurants and bars.
Son Tra Peninsular
The other major city centre attractions are the Son Tra Peninsular, which is a large protected forest area 12 km to the north of the railway station, and the city’s iconic Dragon Bridge which shoots out water and fire from its head on the weekends.
Places to Visit near Da Nang
The best attractions are, however, all located some distance from the city centre bit still accessible via day trips:
- Ba Na Hills: Located 40 km from Da Nang City, Na Na Hills is a French village built in the 1920s to a which a long curving pedestrian walkway was added in 2018.
- My Son Sanctuary: Located 50 km from Da Nang, the My Son Sanctuary is Cham temple complex built between the 4th and 13th Century.
- Hoi An: Ancient port town located 30 km to the south of Da Nang.
These three attractions are amongst the most popular in Vietnam and Da Nang is the best base to stay to visit all three of them. You can stay at Hoi An and Ba Na Hills, but there is not much accommodation near the My Son Sanctuary.
