About Travel to Da Nang
Da Nang is Vietnam’s 6th largest city by population. Over a million people live in the city centre and around 3 million live in the wider metropolitan area. It’s also a major tourist destination attracting over 7 million international visitors and over 9 million domestic tourists in 2025.
Staying overnight in Da Nang
Da Nang is a large city with over 800 tourist hotels and guesthouses for visitors to choose from. There are hotels in most parts of the city, however, the largest concentration of tourist accommodation, as well as bars and restaurants, is in an area directly to the east of the city’s airport on My Khe Beach. This is the liveliest part of the city in the tourist season and it’s where most leisure travellers choose to stay.
In terms of accommodation Da Nang offers great value for money. A bed in a shared dormitory typically costs from $4 USD a night. Well appointed rooms with a balcony and sea views start from around $30 USD a night. The city’s top hotels, such as the beachfront Danang Marriott Resort & Spa, charge up to $300 USD a night for a standard room.

My Khe Beach
My Khe Beach is Da Nang’s main tourist attraction. The beach itself is around 30 km long running from the Son Tra Peninsula in the north of the city south nearly as far as Hoi An. The sand on My Khe Beach is white and kept clean, and during the tourist season it’s safe to swim.
The busiest part of the beach, a section often referred to Bai Bien Beach, is located about 5 km south of the Son Tra Peninsula and immediately to the east of the part of the city with the highest concentration of hotels, restaurants, and bars. There are several designated ‘safe swimming’ areas in this part of the beach overseen by lifeguards. There is also a long line of bars and restaurants behind the beach in this area. Travelling further south My Khe Beach is in places virtually deserted.
Tourist Attractions in Da Nang City
Da Nang is a city with lots of places to visit, mostly located on, or to the west of, the Han River. If you are staying near My Khe Beach and plan to walk around the city we recommend that you take a taxi as far as the Han River and start walking from there.
Among the top places to visit in Da Nang city centre are:
- Danang Fine Arts Museum
- Museum of Cham Sculpture
- Han Market
- Con Market
- Da Nang Museum
- Dragon Bridge
- Love Lock Bridge
- Da Nang Cathedral
Da Nang’s museums are particularly good, especially the Museum of Cham Sculpture which holds by far the largest collection of ancient Cham artwork anywhere in the world. Train travellers should also consider making a visit to Danang Fine Arts Museum, which is located close to Da Nang Railway Station. As well as housing a great collection of Vietnamese artwork, Danang Fine Arts Museum also has lockers to store luggage whilst you walk around the galleries and first class facilities such as air-conditioning and clean toilets.
Tourist Attractions near Da Nang City
Da Nang is also located close to a number of well known tourist attractions which you can easily visit on day trips from the city centre. Three places in particular are very popular with leisure travellers:
- Hoi An: Located only 30 km by road to the south of Da Nang, Hoi An is the major tourist attraction in this part of the country. What’s special about Hoi An is its Ancient Town which features a significant cluster of old buildings and a Japanese style wooden bridge dating back to a period from the 16th to 19th Century when the city was a major trading port. Many of the old buildings have been opened to the public as museums or converted into restaurants, cafes, and hotels.
- Ba Na Hills: Ba Na Hills is a name of hilltop tourist complex 23 km by road from Da Nang City. The complex has been developed from a holiday village built for French settlers in the early 20th Century. The original holiday village closely resembles a village in France, with a church and a French style urban layout. The original village has been expanded with modern hotels, large gardens, and a much photographed observation bridge called the Golden Bridge which is supported by two large hands.
- My Son Sanctuary: The My Son Sanctuary is the least visited of the three major attractions near Da Nang. This is largely because it’s 45 km by road to the south east of Da Nang and it’s difficult to reach by public transport. The My Son Sanctuary is a major temple complex constructed over 1,000 years from the 4th to 14th Centuries by the people of the Cham civilisation. Most of the buildings in this complex have fallen down, however, some are relatively intact and for those interested in ancient South East Asian architecture it’s well worth visiting.
