About Travel to Ninh Binh

The main attraction in Ninh Binh is the Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex, located a few kilometres away from the city of Ninh Binh. Ninh Binh City itself is generally of little interest to tourists other than as a transport hub.

Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex

The Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex is a relatively compact area covering just over 62 square kilometres which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. What’s special about the Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex are the large steep side karst hills rising from the otherwise flat landscape, which is mostly used for rice farming and features meandering rivers.

A popular activity is to take a boat ride on one of those rivers into partially submerged caves within the limestone hills. Also popular are a visit to the picturesque Bich Dong Pagoda and an energetic walk up 500 steps to the top of Hang Mua Peak to enjoy the views and visit the pagoda at the top.

Ninh Binh has three other major attractions beside the Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex: Bai Dinh Pagoda, Phat Diem Cathedral and Hoa Lu Ancient Capital.

Hoa Lu Ancient Capital

The closest of these three attraction to Ninh Binh Railway Station is Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, located 13.8 km by road to the North West of the station.

Bai Dinh Temple

The next closest is the enormous Bai Dinh Temple, which is 22 km away by road, also to the North West of Ninh Binh Railway Station. It’s easy to combine a visit to Bai Dinh Temple with a visit to Hoa Lu Ancient Capital as they close to each other.

Phat Diem Cathedral

Phat Diem Cathedral, however, is located 28.9 km by road to the South of Ninh Binh Railway Station and less convenient to combine with a visit to other major attractions in the province.
